REVIEW: Lunching at L’Antre Amis

For the first time since starting Busy Girl Health, I decided to come up with some New Year’s Resolutions for my IG and blog!

I live in one of the best (and most famous!) wine regions in the world and I work in the gastronomic epicenter of the globe. My first goal is to share more about the restaurants I dine in — I am one of those people who always takes photos of my meals, but I usually don’t post them.

My second goal is to introduce you all to a variety of different winemakers — some of which I have been able to visit and meet personally!

This past year, I have also been very fortunate to do a lot of travelling, despite lockdowns and curfews. My third goal is to start sharing more of my travels with you — especially around France. With the borders closed early last year, I had to opportunity to visit regions that most non-French tourists don’t get to see. In these places, I had the chance to learn about local cuisines, cultures, and histories that I would love to share with everyone.

This post is related to my first goal. Just before Christmas, I lunched at L’Antre Amis, a Parisian restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide. It features a creative menu made with ingredients from Rungis, the largest produce market in the world. They also have a very lovely fine wine list of about 150 bottles.

My entree was fine green beans, served perfectly crisp, and perfumed with hazelnut oil. I really love fresh beans and the simplicity of this dish was refreshing.

This was accompanied by a glass of Mercurey 1er Cru 2016 La Mission – Château de Chamirey. An absolutely sublime white wine that reminded me of fresh movie theater popcorn (in the best way): buttery. I also got a little bit of vanilla and citrus. I want to actually get couple of bottles of this one.

My main was pigeonneau (squab in English: baby pigeon) two ways: roasted and confit. It was served with braised endives, butternut puree, and a spiced mirror-like sauce. With this, I had a glass of Château Carbon d’Artigues Cuvée Prestige Graves Rouge 2015. Tannic with lots of black fruit, a bit of smokiness, and tobacco, it was a robust wine. Not really a match with the delicateness of my dish, but still enjoyable.

I was a little under the weather, so I skipped dessert, but the ones I saw looked divine. I would like to return and try them. Overall, a fantastic restaurant that I highly recommend!
