Brunch Time at The Vic Cafe

If you’re on your way to Prince Edward County for some wining and dining, I highly recommend starting your tour with breakfast (or brunch!) at The Vic Cafe in Picton, Ontario!

My bestie and I had the chance to visit over the long weekend and we absolutely loved it.

This super cute modern diner offers fun twists on standard comfort food. Think tater tots instead of fries (YAS PLZ), croissant French toast, and all kinds of vegan and gluten-free options too. They have something for everyone, from all-day breakfast, to bibimbap, to burgers. Somehow, they manage to make their dishes as nutritionally dense as possible — perfect for someone like me, who generally prefers to order healthier dishes.

This is also a child-friendly establishment, with a kid’s menu, colouring pages, and fun decor.

Speaking of decor, the white interior is playfully adorned with multicoloured lights and sculptures. The entrance to the washrooms continues the bright palette with brushed designs. The floor is purple and there’s a tiled bubblegum pink backsplash. Reminding us that this is indeed a diner are an array of cake platters and plates arranged along the counter. These include homemade poptarts, brownies, cakes, cookies, and more.

Because it was a weekend — and a long one at that — inside was packed. We opted to sit on Vic’s spacious patio instead. Out here, patrons can either sit at patio tables under a large pergola, or at communal tables under umbrellas. A spot at a communal table cleared, so that is where we sat. It was comfortable and we were nicely shaded.

The food and drinks were AWESOME. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but I decided to stick with the more breakfasty options.

I started with a turmeric latte and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. I actually ordered a second one.

The Mediterranean Dream Toast isn’t an exaggeration — it really is dreamy. Whipped ricotta cheese, fresh herbs, roasted cherry tomatoes, garlic sauteed mushrooms, and citrus dressing on a thick slice of toasted sourdough.

My friend got a breakfast sandwich with beets, eggs, and other veg on a toasted slice of sourdough rye. She had a very refreshing Pyramid Ferments raspberry lime kombucha as her beverage of choice.

We obviously needed to try one of the tater tot plates that dotted the menu, so we ordered a Breakfast poutine. It was SO GOOD: tater tots smothered in hollandaise, with cheese curds, green onion, and a fried egg. I want to eat this for breakfast every day!

Overall, The Vic Cafe is a must-visit spot if you’re in the County. The fresh vibe, friendly service, and yummy food are sure to put a smile on your face!
